Fees

The Merivale Hand Clinic is contracted to provide hand therapy funded by Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury (formerly Canterbury DHB) with an appropriate referral from your GP if you qualify. Please discuss this with our office team or your GP. A limit to treatment and splint funding applies. If you have had surgery at The Charity Hospital in Christchurch we will cover the cost of your first two hand therapy visits. If you are unable to access the treatment you require due to financial barriers please discuss this with our team.

On your first appointment

You will be asked to complete a registration form on, or prior to arrival. Please arrive early to complete this. Please bring any referral or ACC information with you.

Your first appointment will take about 30-40 minutes and will begin with a comprehensive assessment. Your hand therapist will explain the diagnosis and discuss treatment options with you. A plan will be made for how many appointments you may need. Your hand therapist can refer you for x-ray or ultrasound imaging, and to other services if needed.

Your consent is essential. During your rehabilitation you have the right to refuse treatment or request a second opinion at any time. You are welcome to bring whanau or a support person. If you have special requirements, including cultural preferences, please let our office team or your hand therapist know so we can make sure we meet your needs. 

Our Merivale and Kaiapoi clinics have shared treatment rooms where other patients may also be seeing a hand therapist. Your privacy will be protected during your treatment however if you would prefer not to be seen in this environment please let us know.

We are able to provide phone or video hand therapy consultations.

We are able to provide phone or video hand therapy consultations. This is a great way to fit appointments into your busy day, or to keep an appointment if you or your family are unwell. You can request a telehealth appointment when booking or discuss this option with your hand therapist. If splinting or hands-on treatments are part of your rehabilitation plan you may need both telehealth and on-site appointments. You do not need a referral to be seen by a hand therapist, just contact us to make an appointment. Our therapists can lodge ACC claims, refer you for X-rays/imaging or a surgical opinion, and liaise with your GP if required.

Yes, registered physiotherapists can register ACC claims. If your injury is the result of an accident ACC paperwork can be completed at your first appointment. You will be notified by ACC if the claim has been accepted. Gradual process work-related injury claims can only be registered by your GP, please call us if you need more information.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel. We send text reminders the day before your appointment. If you arrive late you may receive a shorter consultation due to the arrival of the next patient.
