Each of your hands is made up of 29 bones, 29 major joints, 123 ligaments and is controlled by nearly 50 different muscles. Hand therapy is the skilled assessment and treatment of injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist and arm.

Hand therapists are highly skilled in evaluating wounds and scars, swelling, pain, sensation, joint stability, movement, strength, and function including work and sporting activity.

Treatments include

  • supports and splinting for protection, pain relief and function
  • wound, scar and swelling management
  • exercise prescription for movement, strength and stability
  • advice about protecting your hands at work, and when  participating in sports or hobbies
  • desensitisation
  • pain management
